We are recruiting for a Kitchen Assistant to support our Chef Supervisor in a busy kitchen attached to our Newcastle Day Service.

Our Kitchen Assistant will:

  • Work closely with the Chef Supervisor to manage the restaurant and catering functions, in line with the needs and requirements of the charity.
  • Ensure that the kitchen and associated areas are clean and tidy at all times, with strict adherence to hygiene and health & safety legislation and procedures.
  • Ensure that kitchen equipment is maintained and any repairs/breakdowns are reported to the Chef Supervisor and Registered Manager of Day Services and Residential Respite as appropriate.
  • Provide a high standard of customer service to all of the people attending Dementia Matters services.
  • Work as a team with the Day Service to ensure that lunch times and other interactions are enjoyable and positive experiences.
  • Support the Chef Supervisor to continually review menu choices, taking into account dietary requirements and cultural needs.
  • Prepare nutritional meals/beverages in line with specific dietary requirements.
  • Provide catering for events, including the Dementia Matters coffee mornings, fundraising events, and employee/trustee meetings as required.
  • Ensure that the restaurant areas are set up prior to lunch service; specifically for morning refreshments and lunchtime service.
  • Monitor and maintain food stocks, taking account of quality standards and budgets.

The successful candidate will have experience of working in a busy kitchen environment, and will be able to demonstrate their understanding of the importance of food and hygiene. A minimum of a Level 2 or equivalent in Food Processing & Cooking and Food Safety & Catering is required.
