Who are Dementia Matters? Dementia Matters (formerly Dementia Care Initiative, Dementia Care Partnership, and then Dementia Care) was set up as a registered charity in 1993 to provide services for people with dementia and their carers. Though our name has changed, our goal remains the same: to provide a voice for those with living with dementia, and provide person centred services for those who need our support. We provide specialist care, support and advice across our services to people with dementia and other neurological disorders, such as acquired brain injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. We also support a small number of people with functional mental health disorders and learning disabilities where our skills meet individual’s specialist requirements. In 2018, after a consultation period, we changed our name to Dementia Matters as part of our 25th Anniversary celebrations. We discussed this as a team and with other stakeholders and it was agreed that the 'care' in Dementia Care no longer fully reflected or represented what it is that we do. Our services include: Home Support, which is our community based service. Allowing people to remain in their own homes for as long as possible, we will visit at a time that best suits the individual to provide whatever care and support they required. Our calls can be anywhere from 30 minutes to 24 hour care packages. Residential and Respite, which is our home-away-from-home service on either a permanent or short-term basis. Limited to eight rooms, the service is small and bespoke. We offer Day Support Service in both Newcastle (our Bradbury Day Centre) and Northumberland (our Cramlington Day Support Service). Our Day Services are specialist dementia designed and offer a wide range of activities. We also help carers and family members by sharing our knowledge through offering training and advice on practical care support through our Newcastle Dementia Advice Centre. As a care provider, we are regulated by the Care Quality Commission and, as a registered charity, we are regulated by the Charity Commission (charity number 1045517). Dementia Care is a company limited by guarantee, registered in England & Wales (company number 2980817).
